Frequently Asked Questions

What is chai?

Chai means “tea” in Hindi, but in the UK it’s come to mean a spiced tea blend made with black tea and warming spices like cardamom, ginger, and cloves. At Wild Chai, we make our blends the traditional way: bold, aromatic, and full of Ayurvedic benefits.

Where does chai come from?

Chai has roots in South Asia going back thousands of years. It’s more than a drink—it’s a ritual tied to wellness and hospitality. Our family brought their chai traditions from India to London in the 1960s, and Wild Chai is our way of sharing that legacy.

Does chai contain caffeine

Traditional chai made with black tea does contain natural caffeine. The level is lower than coffee but still enough to give a noticeable boost. Herbal chai blends, like Ruby Fort and Turmeric Shakti, are completely caffeine-free and made only with herbs, spices and flowers.

Do you drink chai with milk?

Yes, chai is traditionally brewed strong and served with milk and a natural sweetener like jaggery or honey. All Wild Chai blends work well with dairy or plant-based options like oat or almond milk. It’s down to taste and preference.

How should I brew Wild Chai

Simmer 1 to 2 teaspoons of chai in a mix of water and milk for 5 to 10 minutes, then strain and sweeten if you like. Herbal blends like Turmeric Shakti or Ruby Fort can be brewed with just water or steeped a little longer. Each pack includes simple instructions for best results.

What makes Wild Chai different?

Most supermarket chai is overly sweet and lacks depth. Ours is authentic, based on recipes passed down through our family. We source our spices and tea directly from carbon-neutral farms in Assam and Kerala, and we support female farmers with fair pay and community investment.

What are the benefits of chai?

Our blends are inspired by Ayurvedic principles. Many ingredients we use, like ginger, cardamom and tulsi, are known to aid digestion, improve circulation, and support mental clarity.

Is your packaging sustainable?

Yes. All Wild Chai packaging is 100% recyclable and biodegradable. We’re serious about reducing waste and supporting a healthier planet.
